Why Do I Want To Learn To Fly
So, you just want to fly for the fun of it! The first thing you should do is figure out WHY you want to learn to fly. There are three main categories that people fall into when it comes to the reason why they want to learn to fly.
Three main categories of people who want to learn to fly for fun
- People that are fascinated with airplanes and flying, but for whatever reason chose a different career
- People who are trying to fulfill someone else’s dream of being a pilot
- People that want to feel like a bird and want to just enjoy the freedom of flight
Do you fall into the First Category?
If you fall into the first category, you should do pretty well with your flight training. Follow the same tips that I give to those who want to become commercial / professional pilots during their initial flight training.
Do you fall into the Second Category?
People in the second category are the least likely to finish their training. I have seen kids sent off to flying lessons by parents who want to vicariously live through them and they just end up spending thousands and thousands of dollars on something that never comes to fruition. I have even been asked to convince the student into wanting to be a pilot. I can’t really help you if you fall into this category, because, I believe that you have to follow your dreams. If you don’t have any interest in flying than I suggest you find something that you have a passion for and do that instead.
Do you fall into the Third Category?
If you fall into the third category, you need to be very careful when choosing a flight school and flight instructor. You also have to take full responsibility of your own flight training. By not taking responsibility of your own flight training, you will be making the same mistakes that cause student pilots to quit flying before they earn their pilot certificate.
